Coffee is very important to many people throughout the day and recently, a new place for people to get their daily cup opened up in Liberal.

Scooters Coffeehouse recently opened a new location ay 1325 N. Kansas Ave. in Liberal and is ready to serve patrons. The drive-through is open Monday through Saturday from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. and  Sundays 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.  The shop serves espresso drinks, brewed coffee, red bull infusions, smoothies, teas, breakfast sandwiches and burritos, as well as made-from-scratch pastries. Most drinks can be made hot, iced, or blended. Owner Donny Huber said Liberal was a great location to put a new Scooters Coffeehouse.

“We decided to open this location because Liberal did not have a drive-through specialty coffee shop.  While doing our research, we found Liberal was a community who loves coffee!” Huber said. “We’s signed a multi site development agreement in early 2019 with Scooter's Coffee, which included Liberal as one of the locations. We started working on finding a location in Liberal during May of 2019 and contacted Plaza Group Investments about the location we ultimately decided on.  They have been wonderful to work with, and without them, we could not have put this together as quick as we did. The City was extremely great to work with as well. Scooter's core values are Love, Courage, Integrity, and Humility.  We want to be able to not only say those, but share these values with the great people of Liberal.”

Scooter’s Coffee was born in 1998, according to the company’s Web site, after co-founders Don and Linda Eckles began an amazing journey and opened their first drive-through coffeehouse in Bellevue, Neb., with their keys to success including finding a great location and staying committed to high-quality drinks, the speed of service, and a big smile.

“Scooter’s Coffee is fortunate to have more two decades of success due to its commitment to the original business principles and company core values,” the company Web site noted. “The co- founders’ daughter was nicknamed ‘Scooter’ and when naming the company, ‘Scooter’s’ became the favorite. It fit well with their mission to keep customers happy by helping them ‘scoot in and scoot out’ quickly.”

For those looking to check out the shop’s menu, Huber offered encouragement for people to drive through and taste for themselves.

“We encourage people to stop by to not only try our great products, but to meet our amazing staff,” Huber said. “We will always focus on the three Amazings:  Amazing people, making Amazing drinks, Amazingly fast! Our fast and friendly team will always put our customers’ needs first and we enjoy sharing that positivity as we serve our products that set us apart from others.”

And though the new store has been open for only a short time, Huber said he and staff are already hearing some great feedback from customers.

“We have heard great things and one customer stated we are the Chick-Fil-A of coffee,” Huber said. “We also own a location in Garden City and have been compared to them as being just as friendly. That is what we want to hear. If we ever miss the mark though, we want to make it right as well.”

Overall, Huber said, he looks forward to Scooter’s Coffeehouse being part of the Liberal community for a long time.

“We look forward to becoming a business that helps bring people together and to share love and joy within the communities we serve, and we can’t wait to serve everyone in Liberal,” Huber said.
