Cyara Heredia is a student at Seward County Community College and a member of a select group.

Heredia, 18, has been chosen from among many qualified young women throughout the state to take part in a weekend event which selects the state’s representatives to the Miss USA and Miss Teen USA pageants.

Heredia is the daughter of Marisol and Robert Heredia.

The Miss Kansas Teen USA pageant will take place Saturday in Kansas City. Heredia will be be competing as Miss Liberal and will compete in active wear or swimsuit, evening gown and personal interview.

Heredia said one of her greatest goals is pursuing her dream of becoming an attorney.

“I believe that with this career path, it will help me have a greater reach to contribute to my country and to those who need it most by being the voice for those who fee as though they don’t have one,” she said.

Heredia said she sees what happens if women unite with one voice.

“As a visionary woman, I see the hope that if we as women would stand together as one and be the leaders within our communities,” she said. “We would create the foundation for the future generation of young girls to teach them with leadership, you can achieve anything as a spokesperson and be the voice for all as a role model. So, the biggest change I would like to see is teaching young girls to be positive role models.”

Heredia knows the value of hard work and what can be achieved with it.

“I believe my greatest personal achievement is recognizing when you have a dream or ambition and it’s so far away or it’s so high up,” she said. “You can feel overwhelmed at times, but when you look at it with a positive mindset of achieving your goals one step at a time, you’re going to look up from your feet and realize you’ll be at your destination.”

Feeling empowered within herself to know who she is, what she wants in life and to have a positive plan to achieve all of her goals with a purpose is what Heredia said makes her feel “confidently beautiful.”

“To embrace my beauty inside and out and to love my flaws as they make me different, but this all comes with seeing the world through the scope of happiness,” she said. “By appreciating humanity and to use my voice to radiate an environment where everyone feels love and accepted.”

Heredia is sponsored by Conestoga Energy Partners and Presley Solutions.
