The Seward County Treasurer’s office is warning people of a scam involving calls claiming to collect taxes on the county’s behalf.

An alert from Seward County said the treasurer’s office has been notified the scam is occurring across the state.

“Individuals are calling taxpayers and claiming they are collecting taxes on behalf of the county and that they currently owe taxes and must pay them immediately or the sheriff’s office will be at their door to arrest them,” the alert said.

The alert when on to say people need to be advised the county does not request payments over the phone, and if they get this type of phone call, they need to notify the Seward County Sheriff’s office at 620-309-2000 or the Liberal Police Department at 620-626-0150.
