jim olsonJames "Jim" Oscar Olson, 70, died Sunday, Jan. 26, 2020 at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.

He was born Aug. 30, 1949 to Arthur and Hazel (Adams) Olson in Liberal.

He married Kay Gibson Sept. 1, 1968 in Anaheim, Calif. She survives.

He enlisted into the US Marine Corp, where he served during the Vietnam Conflict.

In 1970 he returned home where he went to work as a contract carpenter. 

He later went to work with MAPCO in 1980 as a maintenance technician.

He was active with the Boy Scouts of America, Troop 181, where he had served as commissioner. 

He enjoyed operating his amateur ham radio, camping, fishing at Cimarron Canyon, N.M. and Canton, Okla.

Survivors also include sons, James Olson and wife, Kristy, Tyrone, Okla., and Mike Olson, Tyrone, Okla.; daughter, Jamie Walters, Queen Creek, Ariz.; granddaughters, Kaitlin and Amanda; four grandsons: Jimmie Ray, Tyler, Caleb and Devin; great granddaughter, Octavia; sister, Linda Saucedo, Lawrence; and brother, Jerry Olson, Amarillo, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; and three sisters.

• Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 31, 2020 at the South Church of God in Liberal with Pastor Rex Petty presiding.

Burial will take place at the Tyrone Cemetery in Tyrone, Okla.

Friends may call from 1 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, 2020 at Miller Mortuary in Liberal.
