The eighth grade Apaches went down to the wire against the Dodge City Cardinals Tuesday night at Seymour Rogers Middle School.

The first half was laden with Apache turnovers and miscues leading to a halftime deficit of 15-6. Dodge started the second half with a three-pointer to go up by 12, 18-6.

It was at this point a fire was lit and the Apache comeback began. The three points were the only points the Cardinals would score in the third quarter as SRMS climbed within four, 18-14 heading into the fourth quarter.

With just about a minute left the Apaches had to start fouling and sending Dodge City to the line to save clock.

Jovanny Garcia went to the line with SRMS down two with 0.3 seconds on the clock. Garcia sunk the first and missed the second as the Apaches fell 25-24. George Tejeda led the Apaches with seven points and played all but two minutes in the contest. The Apaches have played two great quarters in both of their first two contests.

“When we learn to put a complete game together we will be a competitive force,” Apache coach Rustin Watt said.

The Apaches open WAC play 0-1 and will face their rivals Eisenhower Monday night at SRMS.

8B gets win

Seymour Rogers Apaches jumped out to a quick 11-0 lead on Dodge Middle after the first quarter. The Apaches took their foot off the gas in the second and tried to play hero ball instead of running the offense.

Luckily for the Apaches, Ramsey Galindo and Isaac Dominguez played great defense and were  grabbing all  the 50/50 balls. This effort allowed SRMS to take a 14-2 lead into the half.

Then Seymour scored  a couple quick buckets at the start of the second half to erase any doubt of the outcome.  Apaches B team rolled to their first win of the season and first conference win, 29-13

Seymour Rogers was behind 8-7 after one quarter. The Apaches took the lead at half time 18-14.

The score was 22-18 at the end of the third quarter.

The Cardinals took the lead in the fourth quarter 24-22 but would not score again. With under one minute to play Hudson Rice put the Apaches up by two and seconds later Jakyree Washington hit a three pointer to seal the win.

7B falters late

Alex Korener played his best defensive game.

Alexsis Galindo made two points, Angel Soto two points, Enrique Morales added another two, and Junior King was the lead scorer with seven points.

“Our offense was run much better last night,” Apache coach Ryan Richards said. “It was just was not enough to overcome Dodge and we lost 26-18.”
