There’s an old joke that asserts carrots are good for your eyes.

The punchline: Have you ever seen a rabbit with glasses!

Well, it turns out that carrots are pretty good for your heart, too, according to recent research from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Kansas State University food safety specialist Karen Blakeslee touted the study in a recent issue of You Asked It!, a monthly newsletter from the university’s Rapid Response Center for food science.

Carrots contain beta-carotene, which the body converts into vitamin A. Among its benefits, vitamin A promotes healthy skin and mucus membranes, boosts the immune system and supports eye health.

DODGE CITY – The 2021 3i SHOW, to be held March 18-20 in Dodge City, is rapidly approaching and planning continues as exhibitors and attendees will soon be congregating at the Western State Bank Expo Center.

Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the priority always has, and always will be, the health and well-being of our exhibitors, attendees, volunteers, show staff, county personnel, and expo staff. The board and staff at the 3i SHOW understand the vital role events such as this provide to agricultural and livestock producers.

Throughout the three-day event, the following rules and regulations will be implemented to ensure the health and safety of all in attendance.

KANSAS CITY — Liberal Redskin fans were in no hurry to travel the seven hours back to Liberal Saturday in Kansas City.

After starting the season 2-5 with little hope for a return to the state tournament, fans and players were enjoying a state championship victory until the Kansas City Piper officials had to close down the field.

Still, fans lingered, taking pictures, hugging players and feeling the relief of coming so close so many times and falling short.

Not this time.

After a decade of knocking on the door of a state championship, LIberal kicked it in Saturday with a 3-1 win over Stilwell Blue Valley.
