There are many things that make the holidays special, and among them are Christmas parties full of food and fun for everyone.

Liberal’s Baker Arts Center is providing two events this month, one a party for adults and the other a chance for parents to have a night out away from the children.

The first event takes place Dec. 11, and Baker Director Kat Baalmann is inviting everyone to join in a magical night with a formal dinner and auction in the spirit of a traditional holiday favorite movie and song.

“The White Christmas Ball will be a fundraising event for our operation to continue to offer Liberal and the surrounding area fine arts programming,” she said. “This year’s event will have wonderful food, a wide variety of beverages and fantastic live music. The entertainment will break in the evening for a live auction of unique items, some handmade, homemade and gifted by our generous community.”

The White Christmas Ball takes place exactly two weeks before the Dec. 25 holiday, a time Baalmann said is perfect for such a party.

“We’re thrilled to offer a holiday event close to Christmas that people can enjoy and support live musicians, local artists in our efforts to engage our community,” she said. “It’s $30 for members, $40 for non-members. We’re featuring RBC, a live band from here, and The Tipsy Farmer will be constructing the cocktails and drinks for the night. She’s out of Moscow.”

The atmosphere at Baker Arts on Dec. 11 is something Baalmann said will be quite festive for the holiday season.

“Baker will be transformed with unique decor perfect for photo opportunities,” she said. “The party will include a spin on traditional Christmas favorites with a one-of-a-kind Baker flair to get any Scrooge into the holiday spirit. With all of these components for a wonderful time, we would encourage all of our community to purchase their tickets early.”

Tickets for the White Christmas Ball can be purchased at www.bakerarts.org. The event begins at 6 p.m. at the center at 624 N. Pershing in Liberal

The second Baker event of the month is the center’s Countdown to Christmas Parents Night Out Dec. 18.

“That is a Christmas-themed craft evening for kids 3 to 10,” Baalmann said. “We’ll have Christmas movies, Christmas crafts, Christmas music and other activities. We’ve had great success with offering children’s programming, and with all the fun this season brings, we want to help parents out with a little break and provide fun for the kids in the process so they can make a mess at Baker and not in their homes.”

Baalmann said the Countdown to Christmas gives parents a night out to relax amidst all the holiday stress.

“There’s so much during this season, and any shortcuts that can be made are helpful,” she said.

The Countdown to Christmas will run from 4 to 10 p.m. Dec. 18 at Baker Arts. The cost for the night is $60 for members and $75 for non-members. Baalmann said the night provides another savings for parents.

“You don’t have to worry about dinner that night for them  either because we’re providing pizza,” she said.
