As part of the Fourth of July fun in Liberal, following the parade, there will be booths, a singing contest and a talent show at Light Park.
Sisters Claudia and Candy Garcia are in charge of those areas of the festivities, with Claudia taking charge of the booths and Candi coordinating the talent show and singing contest.
The singing contest is for ages 10 to 20, and there are currently five participants. Candy is looking for three more spots to fill. Prizes will be $125 for first place, $100 second and $75, and contestants will get four minutes to sing the song of their choice. The talent show will start at 1 p.m.
Claudia said she has been wanting to do something like this for a while because it reminded her of similar festivities in the town she and Candy grew up in, and she felt Liberal needed to have more Fourth of July festivities to add to the Bee Jays game at Brent Gould Field, which will also be a part of this year’s Independence Day fun.
To sign up for either the talent show or singing contest, call Candy at 620-621-2526, and to sign up for a booth, call Claudia at 620-391-6820.
Sponsors for the festivities include B&G Services, Bank of Beaver City and Community Bank.
