Light agenda includes HVAC issues

It looks to be a light agenda for the USD 480 school board for its next meeting Monday evening beginning at 6:30. 

Up first for the commission will be HVAC upgrades. USD 480 staff will be asking the board to approve $25,128 for upgrades to rooftop HVAC equipment and controls for the office area at Cottonwood Elementary School, according to the agenda information. 

“An upgrade of rooftop HVAC equipment and controls is necessary for the office area of Cottonwood Elementary School to return the system to proper operation,” the agenda information noted. 

New Liberal High School courses for the 2018-19 school year will also be discussed. These courses include Art History, Apparel Production I, Apparel Production II, Fashion, Apparel and Interior Design, Glass Blowing, Ceramics I, Graphic Design, Independent Art Studio, Into to Drafting, Blueprint Reading, Residential Carpentry I, Construction Math/NCCER, Computer Applications Online, Consumer and Personal Finance, Business Communication, Finance-Workplace Experience, Fire Science I, Fire Science II, an LPSS Internship, and Sports Medicine II. 

“The Curriculum Committee has reviewed and approved the following LHS courses to be implemented with the exclusion of the annual costs and/or student fees,” the agenda information noted. 

For the final new business item, the board will be discussing proceeds from the bond. 

“Discussion with Gilmore and Bell has provided the following deadline to have all bond proceeds spent by the 5-year anniversary of the bonds being issued, which would be June 2019,” the agenda information noted. “If the bond proceeds, approximately $8.3 million, are not spent by this date, USD 480 could have a potential fee due to the IRS. The following projects were in the top 10 for the Board of Education: demolition of old buildings, LHS science rooms remodel, exterior doors and exterior windows, full cook kitchens at Cottonwood Elementary School and Sunflower Elementary School, Central Office relocation, and LHS Parking Lot improvements. Other projects included Redskin Field turf, security, athletic storage/restrooms at the middle schools, preschool improvements, carpet at LHS, Sunflower Elementary School and Cottonwood Elementary School, storm shelters at LHS, Sunflower Elementary School and Cottonwood Elementary School and the preschool, and a bus barn.”
