A Sublette teen and an Ashland man suffered possible injuries in an accident Tuesday afternoon in Haskell County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol said the wreck happened around 3:15 p.m. Tuesday, when a southbound 1999 Ford pickup stopped at a stop sign at OO Road in Haskell County, but failed to yield to a 2015 Peterbilt semi, westbound on U.S. Highway 56.

KHP said the semi struck the pickup, which spun and entered the northwest ditch. The pickup’s driver, 14-year-old Jeremiah Z. Houdeshelt of Sublette, had a possible injury and had a complaint of pain, but refused medical treatment.

A passenger in the pickup, Nathan J. Mages, 43, of Ashland, was taken to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita with a suspected serious injury. The Peterbilt’s driver, 40-year-old Jose G. Olivas-Castillo of Satanta, had no apparent injury in the accident, according to KHP.

The agency said Houdeshelt and Olivas-Castillo were wearing their seat belts at the time of the wreck, but Mages was not.
