Traffic on 15th Street was backed up for several minutes Wednesday afternoon due to an injury accident.

Emergency personnel responded to the incident at 4:17 p.m. Wednesday.

“Emergency personnel were dispatched to the intersection at 15th Street and Carlton Avenue for a reported injury accident.  Responding officers found two vehicles involved,” a release from Liberal Police Department Capt. Pat McClurg noted. “Investigating officers found a 22 year-old-female was driving a 2018 Chevrolet Malibu south on Carlton Avenue.  The driver stopped at the stop sign and then proceeded into the intersection.  A 21-year-old male was driving a 1998 Chevrolet pickup west on 15th Street.  The driver of the Malibu entered the intersection and the vehicles collided. Both drivers were transported to Southwest Medical Center by Seward County EMS with non life-threatening injuries.”

The Malibu was towed from the scene because of extensive front end damage, McClurg’s release continued, and the driver of the Malibu was issued a citation for failure to yield at an intersection.
