Fireworks are what local fire officials believe led to a vegetation fire Monday night west of Liberal.

Seward County Fire Chief Andrew Barkley said units from his department were dispatched shortly before 10 p.m. to Road 6 and Road G.

“Units arrived on scene to find approximately two acres with a moderate rate of spread burning alongside Road G,” he said in a press release.

Barkley said no injuries were reported, and the fire department responded with two chief officers, two engines, two tankers, two attack trucks and eight firefighters.

“Firefighters were assisted by local farmers with tractor and disc and a spray rig,” he said. “Evidence of recently discharged fireworks were found alongside the road.”
