The Liberal City Commission will be keeping its next meeting this evening easy for itself with its new business. The meeting will start at 5:30 p.m. at the commission chambers at 325 N. Washington.

Up first for the commission will be discussion of a resolution regarding Frontage Road west of the Dillons store.

“Whereas a plat of Alco Plaza (being the property generally located at the southeast corner of North Kansas Avenue and 15th Street, was recorded in 1972 in Play Book II ... whereas the plat provided that the western 40 feet of such property shown on the plat was ‘to be dedicated for Frontage Road ... whereas, such Frontage Road was never accepted, improved or maintained by the City and the City desires to abandon, vacate and release such Frontage Road,” the agenda information noted. “The City of Liberal does hereby abandon, vacate and release to the owner of the property of all the City’s right, title and interest, if any, in and to the area of such Frontage Road such that this area shall be owned in fee simple outright by such owner unencumbered by any purported dedication of the Frontage Road. This abandonment and release does not affect or diminish in any way the existing right-of-way for North Kansas Avenue, 14th Street, New York Avenue or 15th Street.”

The commission will also hear a few requests from the Public Grounds Department.

“Staff is requesting approval to purchase a 2020 Sweep-All turf sweeper for the Parks Department. This equipment will be used to sweep parks, dethatch, pick up leaves and debris in the parks, and it will also be used at the golf course. Staff is requesting an amount of $11,879.10 to purchase the sweeper from Schness Industries, with the total being split between the Parks Department and the golf course,” the agenda information noted. “Staff is also requesting approval to purchase a Hustler 104” mower for the golf course. This is also a budgeted item, and we received quotes from two companies. Staff is requesting an amount of $23,000 to purchase the Hustler 104” mower from Keating Tractor.”

The Water Department will also be on hand to request the purchase of transfer switches, and the new business will conclude with requests for an appointment to the Liberal Convention and Visitors Bureau Advisory Board.

“The Convention and Visitors Bureau Advisory Board currently has two members whose terms are expiring. Both have expressed interest in remaining on the board in their current positions,” the agenda information noted. “The board requests reappointing Rosa Castenada, general manager of the Super 8 Motel, to an additional 4-year term as a hotel representative ending in September 2024, and Chuck Lamberson to an additional 3-year term as an oil and gas representative, ending in September 2023.”
