A Guymon, Okla., man was cited for reckless driving and no driver’s license after an accident Friday just east of Liberal.

Seward County Undersheriff Gene Ward said in a press release, around 2 p.m. Friday, deputies responded to the intersection of Eighth Street and U.S. Highway 54 near the landfill.

“A 2008 Honda Accord, driven by Miguel Perez Gabriel of Guymon, struck the guard rail to a railroad signal while making a left hand turn off of Highway 54 to turn onto Eighth Street in Liberal,” Ward said. “The vehicle stuck the guard rail with enough force to get pushed onto the railroad tracks causing the railroad traffic to halt.”

Ward said the driver admitted being late for work and being in a hurry. Perez-Gabriel was cited for reckless driving and no driver’s license.

“The sheriff’s office would like to remind everyone to slow down and be careful while driving,” Ward said.
