Recently, American Legion Post 80 had elections, and a new post commander was elected.

Robert Keating has served with distinction as post commander for more than five years.  He felt it was time he step down and pass the gavel to a new commander.

Myron Heston was nominated and duly elected to the position of post commander.  Other staff positions were re-elected.  Wendell Brack will continue in his role as vice commander, Edwin Lewis will remain as post adjutant, Jim Garcia will continue serving as post chaplain, and Bobby Carpenter will serve as sergeant of arms.

Heston is a graduate of Liberal High School and Oklahoma Panhandle State University.  He is a veteran of the United States Army.  His active duty service was both stateside and two tours in Germany.

During his active duty service, he held various leadership roles.  After leaving active duty he and his wife, Janet, moved back to Liberal where he pursued a 32-year career with Halliburton Energy Services.  He also served eight years in the Army Reserves after leaving active duty.

Keating has served the American Legion and the Liberal community with distinction. He was a dedicated post commander and led by example. He will continue as a valued member of Post 80 and a member of the Honor Guard.  He will be looked upon for advice and guidance.

American Legion Post 80 meets at 7 p.m. the first Thursday of each month. All veterans, regardless of branch of service, are welcome to visit and are encouraged to consider becoming a member.
