Officials are investigating what has been ruled a suspicious fire that took place Tuesday morning in rural Seward County.
Fire Chief Andrew Barkley said in a press release, shortly before 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, firefighters were dispatched to a reported structure fire on Road G and Road 16 northwest of Liberal.
“Units arrived on scene to find smoke coming from a basement of an unoccupied structure,” he said. “Quick knock down kept the fire contained to one room.”
The fire department was assisted by the Seward County Sheriff’s office. No injuries were reported.
“The fire is currently being investigated as suspicious,” Barkley said. “No damage value was available at press time.”
The Seward County Fire Department responded with five firefighters, three engines, two water tenders and two chief officers.
