An in-person Grain Sorghum Production and Economics Update meeting will take place Thursday, Feb. 18, at the 4-H Building, 1130 S. Trindle, on the fairgrounds in Hugoton. 

Registration and coffee will begin at 8:30 a.m. with the meeting to follow from 9 a.m. to noon.

The meeting is sponsored by K-State Research and Extension and Wilbur-Ellis Company LLC.

Dan O’Brien, K-State Agriculture Economist from Colby will provide a market outlook for grain sorghum as well as a budget and cost/return comparison of irrigated grain sorghum with other crops during the current market.

Rick Kochenower, Product Development Lead with S & W Seed and former OSU experiment station manager, will discuss sorghum production considerations including insect control and fertility recommendations.

In addition, Kochenower will provide an update on the Double Team sorghum weed control system expected to be available in the near future.

Renee Tuttle, Extension agent in the West Plains District at Garden City, will discuss herbicide programs for grain sorghum including the Inzen and igrowth herbicide tolerant systems.

There will also be a checkoff program update from the Kansas Grain Sorghum Commission.
