Roy Nelson Gearhart, 94, died Thursday, Nov. 25, 2021 at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.  

He was born March 24, 1927 to John and Ruby (Anderson) Gearhart in Chanute.

He married Phyllis Schield Sept. 10, 1948 in Erie. She survives.

At the age of 15, he came with a friend to Western Kansas to work wheat harvest. 

He enlisted in the Army Air Corp in 1946. After being honorably discharged, he returned to Plains to work at Collingwood Equipment. 

He had a love of racing, hunting, camping , water skiing, and other outdoor activities. 

He also loved piloting his airplane. 

He was always ready for an adventure, never met a stranger, and lived life to the fullest

Survivors also include son, Ace Gearhart and wife, Twyla, Turpin, Okla.; daughter, Diane Conaway and companion, Delbert Kost, Turpin, Okla.; brother, Francis Gearhart, Lampasses, Texas; grandson, Cody Gearhart and wife, Ashley, Dwight; granddaughters, Angela Eichman and husband, Ruben, Turpin, Okla., and Rachel Vangieson, Fort Collins, Colo.; three great-grandsons: Rayce Warden, Liberal, Jace Alvarez and Hannah, Conroe, Texas, and Kannon Gearhart, Dwight; great-granddaughter, Azaelee Gearhart, Dwight; and great-great-grandson, Rowdy Alvarez, Conroe, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Murle Gearhart, Carl Gearhart, and F.L. Gearhart; and sister, Aleen Hill.
