oreta mckinneyJOHNSON – Oreta Ann (Newby) McKinney, 92, died Oct. 2, 2022 in Wichita.

She was born Jan. 23, 1930 to R. Collins and Ruth (Manning) Newby. 

She married Marvin Ray McKinney August 6, 1950. He preceded her in death in 2001.

She enjoyed sewing, needlework, reading, and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and was a vital part of their raising. 

She also taught Sunday School classes for several years. 

She was a summer Y.W.C.A. Counselor at Breckenridge, CO, lifetime member of O.E.S. and enjoyed getting together with her friends at Futorum Club. 

Survivors include son, Brad McKinney and wife, Susan, Johnson; daughter, Tamara Smith and husband, Jeff, Hasty, Colo.; brother, Lyle Newby, Haven; grandchildren: Bryan and  Lettie McKinney, Annette Chenoweth and husband, Braxton, Taylor Tedder and wife, Kimberly, Matthew Tedder and wife, Brittany, Emilee and Mariska Smith, Sally Wright and husband, Donnie, Adam Deatherage, and Jacob Smith and wife, Elizabeth; great-grandchildren: Emma and Ava Tedder, Cole, Jocelyn, Madilyn, and Gracelyn Tedder, Acre Chenoweth, Alicia and Samuel Deatherage, and Thomas, Jimmy and Ava Smith; and many other family and friends.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; son, Mark; granddaughters, Stephanie and Asia McKinney; and sister-in-law, Jean (Lyle) Newby.

• Graveside service and burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 14, 2022 at the Stanton County Cemetery in Johnson, with Pastor Mary Courtney presiding. 

There will be food and fellowship following the service for everyone at “The Roundtop”.
