ignacio perez jrULYSSES – Ignacio “Pete” Perez Jr., 53, died Monday, Aug. 14, 2023 at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses. 

He was born June 1, 1970 to Ignacio “Pete” and Dolores (Hernandez) Perez.

He graduated from Ulysses High School in 1988. 

He joined the U.S. Army Airborne Nov. 21, 1989, and served as an infantryman. He received many medals, campaign ribbons, badges, and citations before he was honorably discharged Nov. 19, 1992. 

He loved the Dallas Cowboys, KU Jayhawks, and was a wrestling fan. 

He enjoyed playing softball.

Survivors include brothers, Eloy Perez and wife, Mary, Ulysses, Johnnie Perez, Lubbock, Texas, and Candelario Perez, Dodge City; sisters, Yolanda Hernandez and husband, Martin Sr., Ulysses, Tina Ochoa and husband, Eddie, Ulysses, Irene Perez, Ulysses, and Melissa Perez, Oklahoma City, and many nieces, nephews, including Alexis, Jakob and K’Lee.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

• Graveside services took place Thursday, Aug. 17, 2023 at the Ulysses Cemetery in Ulysses, with Pastor Jon Becker presiding. Military rites were conducted by Dexter D. Harbour American Legion Post #79.
