Joan Sue Edwards, 75, died Aug. 30, 2023.
She was born April 4, 1948 to Lem and Delores Brown in Liberal.
She attended Liberal High School in Liberal, and furthered her education at Garden City Community College in Garden City, and the University of Kansas in Lawrence.
She was a quiet, kind, and giving person. She had a passion for the arts and spent her time sewing, drawing, and painting. Her love for nature extended to her beautiful flowers which she admired from her swing.
She was an avid reader and enjoyed playing Words with Friends, forging friendships with people from around the world.
She had a genuine acceptance of others, making everyone around her feel comfortable and special.
Survivors include six children: Dawn Wells, Olathe, Shawna (Terry) Streubing, Salina, Dana (Kyle) Miller, Garden City, Karilyn (Dan) Weideman, Garden City, Colton (James) Rivers, Edgerton, and Watonya Ward, Tulsa, Okla.; sister, Linda Parks; 13 grandchildren, and 22 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Phyllis Mouser and Chris Apsley; and brother, Donald Brown.
• A Celebration of Life will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, 2023 at Parkview Manor at 300 N. Chestnut in Olathe.
Donations can be made to assist with final expenses, in addition to the purchase of a memorial bench as well as funds to be donated to a local mental health organization. These contributions would honor Joan’s memory and assist in giving back to her community.
