virginia lozarULYSSES – Virginia M. Lozar, 94, died Thursday, Jan. 9, 2020 at Western Prairie Assisted Living in Ulysses. 

She was born Sept. 19, 1925 to Charles Arthur and Bertha Lillian (Brown) Tallman in Larned. 

She married Oscar Eugene “Gene” Lozar May 5, 1943 in Taylor, Texas. He preceded her in death. 

She graduated from Grant County Rural High School with the Class of 1943. 

She was a wonderful homemaker and was an accomplished seamstress, cook, quilter and gardener.

She worked at Gray & Rosel, and later held positions at several local businesses, including the Chamber of Commerce, Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital and the Ulysses News before finally retiring from Panhandle Eastern at the age of 65. 

She was very active in her community, and she was a long time member of Junior Civic and Study Club, forming many good friends while working on various community projects.  She was also an active volunteer for the Salvation Army and traveled around southwest Kansas in their volunteer capacity meeting with local Salvation Army chapters. 

She was an avid baseball fan and enjoyed watching the KC Royals.

Survivors include children: Judy Keusler and husband, Ken, Ulysses, Cindy Wise and husband, Gary, Garden City, Teri Reist and husband, Steve, Spicewood, Texas, and Kristy Frazee and husband, Stephen, Ulysses;  niece, Linda Giovinco, Linfield, Penn.; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. 

She was also preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Ginger; one brother; and two sisters.

• Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 20, 2020 at Shelton Memorial Christian Church in Ulysses. 

Following the service, the family will receive friends at Bear Creek Coffee. 

Private inurnment will be at the Ulysses Cemetery in Ulysses. 

Memorial contributions may be given to Ginger’s Hope, a fund in the Grant County Community Foundation.  This fund was created to benefit diabetics in the community and honors her diabetic daughters, Ginger and Kristy.  Donations may be made through Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W.
