wilma byersWilma S. Byers, 90, died Monday, March 23, 2020, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal, Kansas. 

She was born Aug. 28, 1929 to Fred and Hazel (Dufield) Shore in Big Bow. 

She married Joseph M. Byers Aug. 6, 1950, in Ulysses. He preceded her in death in 2012. 

She graduated from Grant County Rural High School and then earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Kansas State University. 

She worked with her husband on the family farm, driving a tractor when needed, and did the bookkeeping for the farm. 

When her children were young, she was a youth leader for the United Methodist MYF, taught Sunday School, and was a Cub Scout Den Mother. 

She enjoyed playing bridge, sang in the Sweet Adelines, and was a co-founder of the Ulysses chapter of the American Association of University Women.  She was also a member of Music Club and enjoyed playing the piano and French Horn. 

She was a member of Country View Baptist Church.

Survivors include children: Dr. Jonell Byers, Ulysses, Dr. Lowell Byers and wife, Sophia, of the Kansas City area, Dr. Myrna Domoney and husband, Duff, Broken Arrow, Okla., and Marlene Ledford and husband, Dr. Gary, Springfield, Mo.; nine grandchildren: Grady and Brent Millikan, Kyle Byers, Lauren Cain, Dr. Melissa Wells, Brad Ledford, Tina Grimes, Dr. Cari and Dr. Kali Domoney; and six great-grandchildren. 

She was also preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Lee Shore.

• Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, March 27, 2020 at Country View Baptist Church in Ulysses with Pastor James Berry presiding. 

Burial will follow at the Ulysses Cemetery in Ulysses. 

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 26, 2020 at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses.
