jimmie rogersJimmie Joe Rogers, 81, died Wednesday, May 20, 2020 at Wheatridge Park Care Center in Liberal.

He was born Oct. 2, 1938 to Ernest James “Skinny” and Effie Ruth (Hunter) Rogers, in Chickasha, Okla. 

Jimmie and Sharon J. Davison were married on October 10, 1978 in Clayton, N.M. She survives.

He graduated from Guymon High School with the Class of 1956 and then attended Oklahoma Panhandle State University. 

When he was growing up, he was fascinated by a bobtail truck his father owned that was used for hauling grain and livestock, which later led to a job of hauling cattle in Shidler, Okla., driving a truck owned by Bob Massey and Bob Whitlock. He later returned to Guymon, Okla. and drove a truck belonging to Delbert Johnson that was leased to Alex Hofferber. In 1965, he bought his first truck and remained leased and working at Hofferber Truck Line.

In 1975 he started his own business and operated it for more than 40 years. He truly loved trucks, dispatching and anything that had to do with trucking.

He was a member of the Turpin First Baptist Church. 

He was also a member of the Elks Lodge, the Kansas Motor Carrier Association and the National Pork Board. He was an avid fan and supporter of sprint car racing and enjoyed trap shooting.

Survivors also include sister, Lila Barker, Guymon, Okla.; six daughters: Brigitte Flores and Mylo Salinas, Liberal, Brenda Rogers and Michael Roney, Piedmont, Okla., Erica and Danny Neal, Liberal, Lorri and Ivan Clark, Guymon, Okla., Amy and Joe Kane, Guymon, Okla., and Brenda and Samir Kanjo, Orange, Calif.; 14 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother-in-law, Jim Barker.

• Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 27, 2020 at the Liberal City Cemetery in Liberal, with Rev. Dan Cox, pastor of the Turpin First Baptist Church officiating. 

Services are under the care of the Bunch – Roberts Funeral Home in Guymon, Okla.

The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 26, 2020 at Bunch–Roberts Funeral Home in Guymon, Okla.

Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association or the American Heart Association. Memorials will be accepted at the Bunch - Roberts Funeral Home, PO Box 1112, Guymon, OK 73942.
