jerry hammerschmidtSATANTA – Gerald Dean “Jerry” Hammerschmidt, 66, died Saturday, Saturday, June 27, 2020 at his home in Satanta. 

He was born Nov. 17, 1953 to Elaine A. (Lintell) and Elmer Joseph Hammerschmidt in Oakley. 

He married Vivian Linn (Ungles) Aug. 11, 1979 at St Mary’s Catholic Church in Garden City. She survives. 

He graduated from Oakley High School in 1971, and then continued his education at Colby Community College completing his associate’s degree. 

While in high school, he started working at a men’s clothing store. He learned the business as a young man and continued working in menswear in Liberal and Omaha, Nebraska.

He enjoyed fishing and hunting. He started a pheasant hunting service in 1995 called Flatland Pheasants, catering to hunters from other states.

He enjoyed cooking and tailgating at KSU.

Survivors also include son, Darin Jay and wife, Jamie, Denver; daughter, Jerra Linn Hafferty and husband, John, Alpharetta, Ga.; brothers, Dale Hammerschmidt and wife, Chris, Derby, and Jay Hammerschmidt and wife, Jodi, Platt City, Mo.; sister, Sara Fischer and husband, Chuck, Garden City and four grandchildren: Kylie, Avie, Cadyn, and Keira. 

He was preceded in death by his parents.

• A private family funeral mass will be at St Alphonsus Catholic Church in Satanta. Friends are invited to join the family for the Committal Service at 11 a.m. Wednesday July 1, 2020 at Dudley Township Cemetery.

Friends may call from 1 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 30, 2020 at Weeks Family Funeral Home & Crematory, with the family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. The casket will be closed.
