e.c. kingEzra “E.C.” C King III, 71, died Saturday, June 27, 2020 at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal. 

He was born Sept. 20, 1948 to Ezra C. King Jr. and Geneva Lou King in Garden City.

He married his first wife, Vickie DeCamp, Feb. 22, 1972. She preceded him in death Nov. 26, 2014. 

He married his second wife, Betty Kay Moon Darnell, March 16, 2019 in Lubbock, Texas. She survives.

He graduated from Liberal High School and went on to receive his associate’s degree from Seward County Community College. 

He served in the Army from 1969 to 1970 in Vietnam. He received the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with the Silver Service Star, and the Bronze Star. He served in the Battle of Mole City. 

He was self-employed in financial services. 

Survivors also include son, Kelly D. King and wife, Leah King; bonus sons, Matthew (Brandi) Darnell and Nick (Christina) Darnell; bonus daughters, Christina (Scott) Caldwell and Stephanie (Justin) Nairn; siblings, Charlie King and Carrie Jeannie Rose; 11 grandchildren: Christian Caldwell, Gabe Caldwell, Jocelyn Caldwell, Jewel Brookhart Biles, Ryan Darnell, Izzy Darnell, Kaytlynn Nairn, Devin Nairn, Rylee Darnell, Emma Darnell, and Chloe Darnell; and sister-in-law, Jeri (Dave) Rice.

He was also preceded in death by his parents.

• Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 2, 2020 at the Lone Star Friends Church in Hugoton. 

Friends may call from 1 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 1, 2020 at Hornung Family Funeral Home in Liberal.

Memorials are suggested to the O’ Brate Foundation or your favorite charity of your choice, in care of Hornung Family Funeral Home 1212 W. 2nd Street Liberal, KS 67901.
