carlos wissar gutierrezJOHNSON – Carlos Wissar-Gutierrez, 84, died Saturday, July 25, 2020 at his home in Johnson. 

He was born Aug. 11, 1935 to Enrique and Carlota (Gutierrez) Wissar in Bachiniva, Chihuahua, Mexico,.

He married Belia Perez Dec. 20, 1956, in Gomez, Farias, Chihuahua. She survives. 

While living in Mexico, he worked as a police officer, and then as an owner/operator of many orchards. 

In 1977, the family migrated to Kansas and he worked as a farmer for the Barrett’s in Coolidge. In 1989, he began working for Walker Farms until his retirement. 

He was a member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and Cursillista.

Survivors also unclude children: Carlota Colmenero and husband, Manuel, Coolidge, Rose Ortiz, Brighton, Colo., Luz Vazquez, Tribune, Guillermina Leyva and husband, Jesse, Johnson, Norma Maestas and husband, Steve, Lakewood, Colo., Velia Zamudio and husband, Humberto, Johnson, Carlos Wissar Jr., and wife, Adraina, Ft. Morgan, Colo., Laura Harmon and husband, Chad, Johnson, and Jorge Wissar and wife, Sandra, Johnson; brother, Enrique Wissar, Ulysses; sister, Juana Wissar, Chihuahua, Mexico; 24 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and one great-great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; three sisters; and son-in-law, Paul A. Ortiz.

• Vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 30, 2020 at Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ulysses. 

Funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday, July 31, 2020 at Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ulysses, with Reverend Aneesh Parappanattu, MSFS presiding. The mass may also be viewed via Facebook Live on Garnand Funeral Home’s Facebook page. 

Burial will follow at the Stanton County Cemetery in Johnson. 

Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, July 30, 2020 at Garnand Funeral Home in Johnson.
