john martinJohn F. Martin, 91, died Thursday, Sept. 3, 2020, at his home.

He was born Feb. 17, 1929 to Carl Martin and Sarah Bauer Martin in Pawnee City, Neb.

He married Sally Foster February 17, 1950. She preceded him in death.

He was a graduate of Pawnee City High School with the Class of 1946. He was a graduate of Bradley University School of Horology. 

He was a member of the American Gemological Society, and a Fellow of the Gemological Association of Great Britain.

He moved from Nebraska to Liberal in 1962, where he was associated with Collins Diamonds for 35 years.

He was an Army veteran of World War II and an Air Force veteran of the Korean conflict. He was a life member of VFW Post 3166 and a 69 year member of Sgt. Wimmer American Legion Post 80.

He served on the Liberal Memorial Library Board and the Seward County Safety Council, and was a life member of Southlawn PTA.

He was a member the Masonic Lodge and St. Andrews Episcopal Church.

Survivors include five children: Sara Martin, Vancouver, Wash., J. Patrick Martin, Liberal, Sally Martin Odom, Yukon, Okla., Joseph Martin, League City, Texas, and Mike Martin, Fairway; 16 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sally; and his sister, Patricia Walker.

• Private family services have taken place.

Memorials are suggested to St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, VFW Post 3166, American Legion Unit 80, or the Seward County Community College Foundation.
