michael stevensMike Stevens, 75, died Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2020. 

He was born to Robert and Betty Lou (Seward) Stevens in Liberal. 

He married Leah Dewbre in September 1966. She survives. 

He graduated with the class of 1963 at Tyrone High School in Tyrone, Okla. He received his bachelor’s degree in math education from Southwestern Oklahoma State University and his master’s degree in counseling from East Central Oklahoma State University. 

After college, the couple taught together in Deer Creek School District in Grant County where he also coached girls’ basketball.  In 1969, the couple moved to Healdton where he served simultaneously as the high school counselor, a high school math teacher and a middle school coach.  In the 1980’s the family moved to Ada, Okla., where he managed the college’s bookstore and later taught at Sakawa until the 1990’s. He finished his career and retired from Lindsay, Okla., where he served as a middle school math teacher and a middle school counselor.  After retirement, he would help with whatever was needed whenever he could including managing the clock at football games and basketball games, being a starter for home track meets, and being a substitute bus driver and teacher.

He enjoyed going to his grandchildren’s school activities and eating out with family and friends.  He enjoyed reading westerns, singing in the church choir and playing in the bell choir. 

Survivors also include sons, Luke Stevens and wife, Marisa, Lindsay, Okla., and Martin Stevens, Bixby, Okla.; daughter, Shelly Stevens, Lindsay, Okla.; five grandchildren: Miya Resseguie and husband, Zachary, Moore, Okla., Seth Aiden Stevens, Lindsay, Okla.,Rylee Michael Stevens, Lindsay, Okla., Kathryn Faith Stevens, Lindsay, Okla., and Aleah Rae Stevens, Bixby, Okla.; and great-grandchildren, Reid Michael and Nash George Resseguire. 

He was preceded in death by his parents.

• Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 28, 2020 at the First United Methodist Church in Lindsay, Okla.
