sherry barbyMAY, Okla. – Sherry L. Barby, 73, died Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2020, in Manter. 

She was born Jan. 14, 1947 to Carl Wray and Ollie Mae (Cook) Dotson in Boise City, Okla.

She married Russell Barby, Jr. He survives. 

She graduated from Buffalo High School in Buffalo, Okla., then continued her education at Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva, Okla., where she earned a bachelor’s degree in education. 

She taught school in Garver, Okla., and Karvel, Colo., before moving back to Buffalo, Okla., and became the editor at the Harper County Journal for many years. 

She entered and won many competitions with her mule, Jackie, and her favorites were the endurance races. 

She helped put on Play Days for the youth in Laverne, Okla., for many years and also taught her nieces and nephews the proper way to ride a horse.

She loved gardening, was an accomplished cook, and also enjoyed reading, playing Scrabble, and traveling. 

She was a member of the Red Carpet Mule Team for many years, and attended Knoll’s Christian Church.

Survivors include daughter, Sara Barby and husband, Andrew, Meade; son, Ben Barby and wife, Brandy, Laverne, Okla.; brother, Robert Dotson and wife, Rose, Burlington, Okla.; sister-in-law, Barbara Dotson, Guymon, Okla.; three grandchildren: Shakia, Ollie, and Claire; and many other family and friends. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Wray Dotson and Charles Dotson; and sisters: Barbara Dotson, Darla Smoyer, and Alice James.

• Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 28, 2020 at the First Baptist Church in Laverne, Okla.
