carol schmitzerCarol Gaylene Schmitzer, 86, died Monday, Nov. 16, 2020 at the Beaver County Nursing Home, in Beaver, Okla. after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. 

She was born May 17, 1934 to George B. and Mary Agnes (Richie) Clark on the family farm near Baker, Okla. 

She married Fred Schmitzer. They later divorced.

She graduated from Eureka High School in Baker, Okla.

She worked at Beach Aircraft for a time and then was in food service at the Good Samaritan House for many years preparing meals for the residents. 

She was a member of the Western Avenue Church of Christ for many years. 

She loved garage sales and shopping in secondhand stores for good bargains.

Survivors include children: Randy Schmitzer, Trimble, Mo., Mark Schmitzer and wife, Rhonda, Berryville, Ark., and Rodney Schmitzer and wife, Heather, Chelsea, Okla.; son-in-law, Cliff Squire, Mound City; grandchildren: Thomas (Ashley) Schmitzer, Heather (Justin) McMillin, Ashlee Swartz, Hailey Pryor, Mari Lauren Squire, and Chad Schmitzer; and 17 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Jennifer Squire; brothers, Donald Clark and Bobby Clark; three sisters: Ruth Koontz, Christine Jenkins, and JoAnn Allen; grandson, Chase Schmitzer; and daughter-in-law, Debra Schmitzer.

• Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, 2020 at the Hornung Family Funeral Home Chapel at 1212 West 2nd Street in Liberal. For those attending the services the family has requested that social distancing guidelines be followed and request that all present in the funeral home wear a mask. This is for safety and the best interest everyone’s health – we will use social media to offer condolences and support to the family in lieu of attending. Per family wishes, the service will be available on Facebook Live.

Burial will follow at the Liberal Cemetery in Liberal. 

Friends may call from 1 to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20, 2020 at the Hornung Family Funeral Home Chapel at 1212 West 2nd Street in Liberal.

Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association in care of Hornung Family Funeral Home 1212 W. 2nd Liberal, KS 67901.
