bonnie ipsonELKHART – Bonnie June (Gerrond) Ipson, 91, died Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2020 at Morton County Hospital in Elkhart. 

She was born June 30, 1929 to James Ray and Eva (Slemp) Gerrond on the Gerrond Farm in Stevens County.

She married Roger Ipson June 18, 1949 in Clayton, N.M. He preceded her in death in 2003

After graduating from high school, she attended business college in Omaha, Neb., then returned to Hugoton to work for Bell Telephone. 

She worked for the City of Elkhart for 20 years, in the city clerk’s office.

She enjoyed retirement in the RV with her husband, traveling the country and snow birding in Harlingen, Texas.

She was a Sunday School teacher and 4-H leader for her children. 

She was a talented quilter, completing quilts for all the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 

She enjoyed watching Elkhart sports teams, especially baseball and softball, and was a big fan of the Kansas City Chiefs. 

She was a member of the Elkhart United Methodist Church.

Survivors include daughter, Teresa Harder and husband, Ted Elkhart; five grandchildren: Kellie Mittelstedt and husband, Ben, Conroe, Texas, Tara Bayles and husband, Adam, Monck’s Corner, S.C., T.J. Ipson and wife, Josie, Turpin, Okla., Chelsi Plummer and husband, Zac, Amarillo, Texas, and Ethan Harder, Elkhart; sisters, Evelyn Schmidt, Hugoton, and Dossie Schweitzer, Dodge City; sister-in-law, Eilene Firmin Mesquite, Texas; brother-in-law, Howard Ipson, El Paso, Texas; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; sons, Ted Ispon and Ronald Dean Ipson; and brothers, James Gerrond and Roland Gerrond.

• Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 23, 2020 at the Elkhart United Methodist Church in Elkhart with Pastor Shella Choi and Jerry Ryman presiding. The services may also be viewed on Garnand Funeral Home’s Facebook page via Facebook Live.

Burial will follow at the Elkhart Cemetery in Elkhart.
