fidencia cortezULYSSES – Fidencia Cortez, 43, died Saturday, Jan. 9, 2021 at Citizens Medical Center in Colby. 

She was born Aug. 1, 1977 to Arturo and Gloria (Rodriguez) Cortez in La Mesa, Texas. 

She worked as a CNA at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses and worked for Ulysses Laundry for several years. 

On November 12, 2017, she gave her life to God and loved to share her testimony and preach the gospel to everyone. 

She enjoyed going and watching all the events they participated in.  She was proud to be a “Soccer Mom” and her children considered her their hero.

She was a member of New Life Church in Ulysses. 

Survivors include her mother; her children: Erasmo Cortez, Houston, Gabby Sanchez, Ulysses, Juan Cortez, Garden City, Yessenia Nava, Ulysses, Brenda Nava, Ulysses, Camila Murillo, Ulysses, Cristina Leyva, Ulysses, and Cristal Leyva, Ulysses; siblings: Juan Cortez, Ulysses, Maria Landeros, Ulysses, Rosalinda Cortez, Ulysses, Elpidio Cortez, Ulysses, Jose Santos Cortez, Ulysses, Cristobal Cortez, Houston, Victoria Cortez, Ulysses, and Francisco Cortez, Houston; five grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her father; brother-in-law, Cesar Manuel Landeros; and first husband, Erasmo Talavera.

• Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 15, 2021 at Garnand Funeral Home Chapel in Ulysses, with Minister Warren Baldwin presiding. Services may be viewed on Garnand Funeral Home’s Facebook page via Facebook Live. 

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 14, 2021 at Garnand Funeral Home Chapel.
