tom nelsonThomas (Tom) Nelson, 61, died Thursday, Feb. 11, 2021 in Paige, Ariz. 

He was born May 25, 1959 to Alfred and Patricia Nelson in Concord, Calif. 

He married Deborah Grauberger (Debi) May 26, 1984. They later divorced.

He married Sharon Lubbers July 29, 2000. She survives.

He graduated from high school in 1977 from Pittsburg High School in Pittsburg, Calif. He later attended DeVry University and majored in electrical engineering

He enlisted in the United States Army Oct. 9, 1981 and served his entire enlistment in Ft Riley. He served in the Army until 1985. He joined the Kansas Nation Guard in 1993. From 2001 until his retirement, he was stationed in Liberal, Camp Shelby, Miss., Fort Riley, and Iraq, achieving the rank of Sergeant First Class.

He enjoyed bowling, skiing, fishing, boating, and golfing with Sharon.

Survivors also include his mother; son, Zach Nelson and wife, Leah, Hiawatha; daughters, Breanne Nelson and Danae Nelson, Topeka; brothers, Daniel Nelson and wife, Sandy, Oregon, Steven Nelson and wife, Susan, California, and James Nelson and wife, Jennifer, California; sisters: Joanne South and husband, JR, California, Martha Coltrin and husband, Charles, Carson City, Nev., Patricia Preciado, California, and Margaret Nelson, California; grandchildren: Drew Nelson and Taya Nelson, Hiawatha; and many other friends and family.

He was proceeded in death by his father; brothers, William and Rickey; and nephew, Derek Coltrin.

• Celebration of Life services will be at 12 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 20, 2021 at the VFW in Garden City.
