Merle Leon Bridenstine, 71, died Monday, Feb. 15, 2021.

He was born March 14, 1949 to Glen and Thelma (Wilkerson) Bridenstine in Liberal.

He was a graduate of Turpin High School with the Class of 1968. 

He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. 

He worked as a truck driver for 43 years before retiring in 2017. 

He loved the outdoors camping, fishing, and being at the lake.

He was a lifetime member of the Liberal VFW Post 3166 and also a member of Trinity Faith Church in Liberal.

Survivors include six sons: Matthew Bridenstine and wife, Becky, Temple, Ga., Michael Bridenstine, Tyrone, Okla., Derek Bridenstine-McTurnal and husband, Matt McTurnal-Bridenstine, Choctaw, Okla., Brian Bridenstine and wife, Keyona, Perryton, Texas, and Justin Bridenstine, Beaver, Okla.; daughter, Tammie Havens and husband, Chris, Temple, Ga.; stepson, Daniel Palmer and wife, Heather, Hot Springs, Ark.; stepdaughter, Melody Martinez and husband, Manuel, Spearman, Texas; brother, Galen Bridenstine and wife, Roberta, Turpin, Okla.; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

• There will be a family and friends Celebration of Life service at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 20, 2021 at the Liberal VFW Post 3166.

There will be no public viewing as cremation has taken place.
