anna newportAnna Irene Newport, 57, died Friday, April 23, 2021 at her home in Turpin, Okla.

She was born Sept. 23, 1963 to Ralph LeRoy Lofland and Bess Carlene Crossley in Wichita. She was raised by her loving adoptive family and reconnected with her biological family in 2014. 

She married her husband, Michael, Feb. 18, 1994. He survives.

She graduated from Liberal High School in 1981 and attended Seward County Community College. 

She worked at Southwest Medical Center from 1980 to 2018. She worked as a ward clerk on the surgical floor and then worked in the pharmacy as a pharmacy technician.

She was known for her baking skills, which included her sugar cookies, Key Lime pie and many other desserts. 

She enjoyed hosting company and entertaining.

Survivors also include her mother, Donna Garner-Shughart, Meriden; daughter, Emmalee Newport and husband, Thomas Kuns, Turpin, Okla.;  siblings: Tammy Davis and husband, Dwayne Davis, Meriden, Amy Garner, Meriden, and James Garner, Topeka; and many other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by adoptive parents, Ralph and Carlene Lofland; biological father, William Garner; brother, Dan Lofland; and infant sister, Ester Lofland.

• Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, April 30, 2021 at Hornung Family Funeral Home at 1212 W. 2nd Street in Liberal.

Burial will follow at the Liberal City Cemetery in Liberal.  

Friends may call from 1 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 29, 2021 at Hornung Family Funeral Home at 1212 W. 2nd Street in Liberal. The family will be receiving guests from 5 to 7 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor’s choice in care of Hornung Family Funeral Home.
