Stanley Mires died Sunday, Sept. 12, 2021. 

He was a graduate of Stanford University, where he received his B.S. in mathematics in 1969, as well as a 1972 graduate of Stanford Law. 

He spent his law career as chief counsel for the United States Postal Service.

He loved gardening, darts, an occasional single malt scotch, collecting stamps, crossword puzzles and his prized train collection. One of his great joys when he was President of D.C.'s Tournament Darts International (TDI). He enjoyed flexing his creative muscles writing up the weekly newsletter, visiting each league bar every week and mingling with league members.

Beloved husband of Cassandra Mires; son in law of Vernell Mullins. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Beulah (Kinsey) Mires and Fred Cullum Mires of Prescott, AZ and his faithful cheese eating cats, Fred and Beulah. 

He is survived by other loving family members, friends, and former coworkers.

• Funeral services took place Friday, Sept. 17, 2021 at Collins Funeral Home in Silver Spring, Md. 

Burial took place Friday, Sept. 24, 2021 at the Liberal City Cemetery in Liberal.
