As an education advocate involved in Kansas politics for decades, I know good relationships are the foundation for success between teachers and students, and between politicians and constituents. When there is communication, respect, and decency, progress is great.

But from my perspective, the current political culture in Topeka no longer allows for good relationships. Today, it seems that the only relationships that matter to majority of Topeka legislators, are the relationships with party bosses and lobbyists. This promotes bullying to highest form.

The consequences of this toxic culture are severe. It encourages legislators to play political games that are very expensive to the voter. It takes time away from developing the relationships necessary to get the job done for the state of Kansas. In playing games, they think they are above the constitution and when they don’t like it — they want to change the rules.

But there is a candidate for Governor this year that can break the bullying and toxic culture.

The Orman/Doll ticket can put us back on track. Greg Orman is an outsider with decades of experience creating jobs in the private sector. John Doll is the only independent in the legislature. He was a Mayor of Garden City, and a career coach and educator before that.

Kansas needs these two gentlemen. We need leaders that will break the cycle of political dysfunction. We need leaders committed to public education and economic growth for the entire state.

Today, I announce that I am not just voting for Orman/Doll in November, but I am endorsing his candidacy for Governor. Greg Orman is a real leader who has detailed policies that are grounded in common sense. On Nov. 6, vote Greg Orman.
