The Liberal Redskins opened the 2022-2023 season on the road Friday and came away with a 74-60 win over the Ulysses Tigers.

Zayden Martinez had his best game as a Redskin. The junior scored 32 points to lead Liberal to victory.

The Tigers and Redskins had a back-and-forth tussle early with Ulysses taking na early lead.

But the Redskins closed out the first quarter on a run to take a 14-13 advantage.

Liberal led by as many as four before the Tigers put together a 13-0 run to take a 36-27 lead in the third quarter.

But the Redskins answered with a run of their own and erased the Ulysses advantage.

The Redskins continued to outpace the Tigers in the fourth quarter and led by as many as 16 before cruising to the 74-60 win.

In addition to the 32 points scored by Martinez, Adan Mata had 15 points, and Chris Robeldo put in 10.

The Redskins will hit the road to face Scott City Friday and will have their first game in The Big House Saturday against Coronado, Colo. The boys game will follow the girls who will tip at 3 p.m.
