Keyona Hall had a career day against Junction City in the first round of the Salina Invitational Tournament. The senior scored 22 points to lead the Lady Redskins to a 61-21 win.
Hailey Contreras helped the Lady Redskins get off to a quick start with two three pointers in the firs quarter and scored 10 points in the period, and the Lady Redskins had a 16-5 lead.
After scoring a pair of free throws in the first quarter, Hall erupted for four baskets and two more free throws in the second quarter for 10 points, and the Lady Redskins has a 32-14 lead at half.
Hall followed up her 10-point second quarter with 10 more in the third including two three pointers, and the Lady Redskins pushed the lead to 50-16.
With the 34-point advantage, the fourth quarter took place with a running clock, and Liberal coach Brandi Fowler was able to get her entire squad playing time. Liberal continued to outpace the Lady Blue Jays in the fourth, outscoring Junction City 11-5 for the 61-21 final.
Hall led the Lady Redskins with 22 points, and Contreras added 17.
The Lady Redskin also had six three pointers in the win and advanced to face the Salina central Lady Mustangs in the semifinals, with the winners advancing to the tournament championship.
The Redskins played their first game of the tournament and continued to struggle at the annual event, falling to Abilene 64-42.
Liberal has another slow start, something that has plagued the Redskins this season, and by the end of the first period the Redskins trailed 21-8.
Liberal made up some ground before half and had the lead down to five, 26-21, but a late Liberal turnover turned in to a buzzer-beating three at half, and Abilene led 29-21.
The Redskins again trimmed the lead early in the third quarter, nut Abilene recovered late in the period and extended the lead to 43-30.
The teams combined for 28 free throw attempts in the final quarter, and Abilene put the game out of reach by outscoring the Redskins 21-12, and Liberal fell 64-42.
Chris Robledo led the Redskins with 17 points, and Zayden Martinez had 11.
Liberal faced Salina Central in the consolation round.
