Special to the Leader & Times
Thursday night the Eisenhower boys seventh grade basketball team traveled to Dodge City to take on the Cardinals.
The opening quarter saw both teams playing even with Kale Miller dropping a three to close it out knotted up at 7-7.
The Warriors then outpaced the Cardinals in the second and third quarters by 11 points to take a 28 -17 lead into the final quarter.
Eisenhower then held off a late surge by the Cardinals to win 34-28.
“The boys really came out to play tonight,” Eisenhower coach James Babinec said. “We did a great job working the ball into our posts while crashing the boards offensively. Most of our points came inside the paint. Christoper Pino coming off the bench adds so much quickness as well as attacking the basket finishing shots. Max Gonzalez, J'Kobe Contreras, Bren Kappelmann, and Landry Frizgerlad picked up on the defense, disrupting their offense. Overall a nice win, but the season is still young and we have some things to clean up and improve.”
The Warriors were led by Adrian Gonzales with 15 points, Christopher Pino with six, Kaeyloeb Alvarado scored four, Kale Miller had three, while Isaac Castaneda, Ethan Olmstead and J'Kobe Contreras each added two.
Gonzalez and Olmstead each grabbed five rebounds with Contreras adding four more.
The Warriors shot 42 percent from the field, their best to date.
Eisenhower played a rescheduled game Saturday against Hays and Great Bend and will go on the road Monday to Garden City to face Kenneth Henderson.
