The Lady Saints fired off 16 more shots than Independence Saturday in the Greenhouse, but they made three less in a disappointing 80-65 loss to the Lady Pirates.
Seward missed shots on breakaways and only made six of 27 three-point attempts.
By the end of the game, Seward shot 29 percent.
Independence connected on 10 three pointers on 24 attempts and shot 41 percent for the game.
D’Arrah Allen led the Lady Saints with 25 points, De’Shawnti Thomas had 13, and Halima Salat scored 12.
But the missed shots and inability to convert on turnovers proved costly. Seward forced 24 Lady Pirate turnovers while only committing six of their own but still lost by 15 points.
“We were selfish,” Seward coach Todd Ciochetto said. “We didn’t guard, we didn’t pass, we didn’t rebound. It was as bad as one of my teams have ever played.”
The Lady Saints have had success this season, but it was with a different approach, according to Ciochetto.
“When they show up and do things the right way,” he said. “There were too many excuses tonight. Our freshmen did fine, but we have some bad attitudes, and we have to fix that.”
Seward travels to Garden City Wednesday before returning to the Greenhouse at 2 p.m. Saturday for Homecoming.
