Brooks Kappelmann opened the 2023 season for the Redskins with a dominating performance on the mound. He only allowed one hit and no walks while striking out 13 in a 10-0 run-rule win over Hugoton.
The Redskins went on to sweep the twinbill with an 18-6 win in Game 2. Both games were called by run rule in the fifth inning.
Aidan Schwindt scored the first run of the season after leading off with a walk, stealing second and scoring on an Eric Lira hit.
Lira had three RBIs in the win as did Marco Alonso.
Aidan Schwindt started on the mound in Game 2 and allowed six hits and six runs with two walks while striking out four in an 18-6 win. Zayden Martinez closed out the game on the mound by allowing no runs and no walks, one hit and four strikeouts.
Martinez, Lira and Landon Martinez each had two RBIs in the win.
Liberal hosts Garden City at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
