After a slow start in Game 1 of a double header with Scott City Monday, the Lady Redskins improved as the games went along, but they could not complete the rally in Game 1, falling in extra innings 6-5. But they Lady Redskins took control in Game 2 and claimed an 8-4 win.
Jenna Ormiston took the circle in Game 1, but defensive miscues by the Lady Redskins allowed Scott City to score four runs in the second inning.
The Lady Redskins responded in the fourth inning with a pair of runs to cut the lead to 4-2, and after Scott City pushed a run across the plate in the top of the fifth, the Lady Redskins scored three runs to tie the game 5-5.
Neither team scored until the top of the eighth when Scott City added a run, and Liberal could not answer and fell 6-5.
Liberal outhit Scott City 11-6 in the loss. Liberal committed six errors while the Lady Beavers only had one.
Zoey Torres took the circle for Liberal in Game 2, and she also helped her cause at the plate with a three-hit performance.
The Lady Redskins had to play without heavy hitter Lizzy Mannel who was injured in Game 1, and that caused coach Tommy McClure to adjust the line-up. He moved Ariana Hubbard to catcher and called up Miley Janko from junior varsity to take right field.
Liberal jumped out early with three runs in the first and two more in the second for a 5-0 lead.
Scott City responded with two runs in the third, but Liberal added a run in the fourth for a 6-2 lead.
Scott City added two more runs in the sixth, but the Lady Redskins responded with two more in the bottom half of the frame.
Liberal protected the lead in the seventh for the 8-4 win.
Taylor Harding had two hits in the win.
Janko had a pair of key catches in right and two RBIs in the win as did Lexi Miller.
