The Lady Redskins played an error-free game in the first round of the Class 6A Regional Tournament Tuesday in Manhattan, but they struggled to get hits, and despite only allowing six runs, Liberal was shut out 6-0 to end their season at 6-15.

Jenna Ormiston finished her high school career with a complete game, allowing six runs on 11 hits and one walk while striking out two.

But the Lady Redskins struck out 15 times and only managed three hits in the loss.

Liberal only had five base runners the entire game.

Maedeen McClure led the Lady Redskins at the plate with a double, and she also stole a base.

Zoey Torres also had a hit and was the only Lady Redskin in the line up who did not strike out in the game.

Madalyn McCarter had Liberal’s only other hit.

Lexi Miller and Marypher Lopez reached on walks.

Liberal entered the tournament as the 13th seed and ended the regular season with three consecutive wins, all against Western Athletic Conference opponent Dodge City.

Manhattan was the No. 4 seed and advance to the Class 6A State Tournament after defeating Liberal 6-0 and Wichita Northwest 9-7.

Dodge City was the 16th seed in the playoffs and lost to No. 1 Derby by run rule, 12-2. Derby advanced to state after defeating Topeka 8-6.

In other WAC action, Great Bend upset Hays 10-5 in the Class 5A playoffs, but Great Bend fell to Eisenhower 6-2 in the regional championship.

No. 2 Garden City is set to face No. 15 Lawrence today.
