COFFEYVILLE – Branton McCrary missed a game-tying shot at the buzzer as the Seward County Community College men's basketball team came up short at Coffeyville Community College, 65-63, on Saturday.  The Saints fell to 8-6 overall and 1-4 in the Jayhawk West.

Seward had multiple opportunities late in the game to tie or take the lead, but failed to cash in each time.

McCrary, the freshman guard from Little Rock, Arkansas, had a career-high 26 points to go along with nine rebounds, but it was not enough as the Saints lost for the fourth time in five conference games.

The Red Ravens were in control most of the first half and did not relinquish the lead to the Saints. Coffeyville led 22-15, but Seward responded to get it back within in one possession. The Red Ravens had their own answer as they ended the first half on a 15-9 run to hold a 37-28 lead at halftime.

The Saints came out of the locker room with renewed energy and tied the game at 53 with 9:48 left. Seward gave up timely offensive rebounds that led to second-chance opportunities for Coffeyville. Despite the lapses, Seward still managed to stay within one possession and had a chance to win it at the end.

Stephen Takyi had nine points, Rostyslav Novitskyi scored eight and Qaiyoom Olanlege netted seven, going 3-3 from the field, for Seward, which committed 24 turnovers.

Coffeyville was paced by Tony Hutson with 14 points, three rebounds, and three steals and Bostyn Holt and Manny Crump each added nine points. The Red Ravens improved to 11-5 overall and 3-3 in the Jayhawk East.

The Saints return home to host Independence at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Greenhouse.
