Tianna Johnson had a putback at the buzzer to propel the No. 19 Lady Saints past Colby 52-50, on the road to improve to 21-5 on the season and 16-2 in Conference play.

Seward shot just 27 percent from the field but shot 40 percent in the fourth quarter to battle back. With the win and after Hutchinson’s loss at Dodge 69-55, Seward is tied for first place in the Jayhawk West and holds their destiny for the remainder of the season.

With 1:42 left in the game, Aquila Mucubaquire attacked from the top of the key to the right block to get a lay-up and gave the Lady Saints a 50-46 advantage.

The Trojans responded with a basket of their own and a stop defensively to get the ball back with 43 seconds left and an opportunity to tie the game or take the lead. After a timeout, Colby executed their set play against Seward's zone defense to get Nyrobi Pillars a lay-up on the low right block to tie the game at 50 24 seconds to play. Seward took a timeout to advance the ball to halfcourt and gave the ball to Tianna Johnson at the top of the key. She attacked to the left block, but her first attempt fell short. She followed her shot to put it back up and in as the horn sounded. Johnson recorded her first double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds.

To start the game the Lady Saints were unable to establish their offense and shot just 1-16 from the field in the first quarter. After Colby connected on lay-up before the end of the quarter Seward faced their largest deficit of the game 14-9. In the second quarter, the Lady Saints responded with defense and got their offense back on track. Seward outscored Colby 16-12 in the second quarter but trailed the Trojans 26-25 at half.

The Lady Saints outscored the Trojans 12-10 in the third quarter and take a 37-36 lead in the final quarter. The game saw 17 ties and 18 lead changes.

The other top scorers for Seward were Destiny Alston and Ayanna Smith both with seven points.

The No. 19 Lady Saints will be back in action Saturday to take on Barton at 6 p.m. in the Greenhouse for Sophomore Night.
