WICHITA  — Thirteen Bee Jays were left stranded on base Friday against the Houston Express, and the lack of a hit with runners in scoring position led to a 5-4 loss that eliminated the Bee Jays from the NBC World Series.doubleplayAidan Shepardson gets the first out in a double play against the Houston Express Friday at the NBC World Series in Wichita. Cal Carver threw the first four innings and allowed five runs on five hits. Tanner King came in relief and pitched four scoreless innings to give the Bee Jays a chance to rally.

Liberal had a chance to score in the third inning when Nate White led off with a double, but the next three Bee Jays were unable to get him home.

Carver struggled in the third, hitting a batter and allowing two singles and a double to give up three runs, and Liberal trailed 3-0.

Liberal put the first two runners on base in the fourth but again, neither scored.

Kade Brewer doubled in the fifth and Bryce Donovan singled to score two runs and cut the lead to 3-2.

But the Express answered with two runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 5-2 lead.

The first two Bee Jays in the eighth walked, and a two-out walk to White loaded the bases, but Caeden Trenkle grounded out, and the Express preserved the 5-2 lead.

The Bee Jays started the ninth with a walk to Jack Malone before Brewer singled, and Cayde Ward followed with an RBI single to cut the lead to 5-3.

Donovan walked to load the bases, and a sacrifice fly from T Delong allowed Brewer to score and Ward advanced to third.

But Shepardson struck out, and after Donovan stole second, Wilson Erhardt hit a ground ball to short, and Erhardt was thrown out at first to end the Bee Jay rally one run short.

Liberal outhit Houston 8-6, but the Bee Jays left 13 on base while the Express only stranded three.

The Bee Jays finished the season at 30-9 and 2-2 at the NBC World Series. Liberal finished fifth at the national tournament.
