Trying to get back to .500 has been a struggle for the Lady Redskins, but they keep within a match of evening their record after a split in Newton.

Earlier this season, the Lady Redskin split in Garden City, Hutchinson and now Newton.

Liberal (5-6) came close in the first set against Newton before falling 25-23.

In the second set, the Lady Redskins struggled and the Lady Railers took the march with a 25-13 win.

Aubrey Warden had seven kills in the loss, ad Bree Horyna added five.

Logan Doge had 15 assists. Warden added nine digs, and Shattarika Ross had eight.

In the second match, the Lady Redskins rebounded with a win over Independence.

Liberal opened with a 25-20 win in the first set and then swept the match with a 25-21 win in Set 2.

Horyna led the Lady Redskins with 10 kills, and Warden had nine.

Dodge added 22 assists.

Lizzy Cisneros had 15 digs, and Mimi Gomez had nine.

Jenna Ormiston scored five aces.

In junior varsity action, the Lady Redskins matched the performance of the varsity, dropping a match to Newton while defeating Independence.

The JV lost to Newton 25-23, 25-18 but defeated Independence 25-18, 25-18.

The JV will travel to Scott City for a tournament Saturday, and the ninth grade team will travel to Garden City Saturday.

The varsity will return to acton Thursday when they travel to Dodge City.

The next home event for Lady Redskin volleyball will take place Sept. 19 when the Liberal hosts its annual tournament.
