GARDEN CITY — The Lady Redskins continued to fall short of earning a Western Athletic Conference win Monday.

After coming close in Hays in a 7-6 loss in extra innings, the Lady Redskins traveled to Garden City Monday for a make-up game against the Lady Buffaloes and came up short in an 11-1 loss.

Garden City started with a 1-0 lead in the first inning and then pushed out to a 5-1 lead after the second.

The Lady Redskins responded with a run in the third when Ren Watt led off with a single, stole second and scored to cut the Garden City lead to 5-1.

Jenna Ormiston then pitched a solid third inning with three straight ground balls to shortstop Eyleen Vasquez who fielded them all and made the plays to first baseman Jaciana Rivera for three consecutive outs, and the Lady Redskins had a chance to cut into the Garden City lead.

But Liberal couldn’t keep the momentum going in the fourth, and after three outs, Garden City returned to the plate and started to belt out hits while taking advantage of some fielding struggles by the Lady Redskins, and the Lady Buffaloes pushed six runs across the plate tot ake an 11-1 lead into the top of the fifth.

Watt led off the inning with another base hit and advanced to third with only one out, but the Lady Redskins could push the run across the plate, and the Lady Redskins fell by run rule, 11-1.

Watt led the Lady Redskins with two hits and a run scored.

Vasquez also had a hit for the Lady Redskins.

Ormiston took the loss allowing 11 runs, six of those earned, on eight hits and one walk while striking out six.

The lady Redskins will compete in Hugoton in a double header today.
